You didn’t think that there was only one night of Funk Fest, did you? Don’t worry, this weekend has plenty of Funk for your enjoyment- including this Saturday night. Both acts are so diverse that the two together will make a well-rounded lineup.
Headlining the night is Mama Digdown’s Brass Band, who have been around for quite some time. Even though they are from Madison, Mama Digdown’s Brass Band specialty is New Orleans Jazz. The group has traveled and played at multiple stages over the twelve years they have been together, and also shared stages with artists such as The Neville Brothers, or Dr. John. With eight members, their sound certainly resonates out towards the crowd. The combination of trumpets, trombones, saxophone and the drums gives us the jiving songs like “Red Dress,” or “Mojito.” After you finish reading this post, you can also download their song, “Voodoo Grove (Slight Return)” for free.
But before we experience New Orleans Jazz, we get the pleasure of witnessing Afro-Zep, a Led Zeppelin cover band that incorporates African-pop beats into Zeppelin’s classic songs. The band originated back in 2009 because the members wanted to spread the brilliance of African music. It’s intriguing just hearing they are a Zeppelin/African music band, and when songs “Fool In The Rain” or “Friends” are played, it’s extremely difficult to stop listening.
So why not join us on The Terrace this Saturday night? Let’s all get our funk on together. Enjoy downloads from both Mama Digdown’s Brass Band and Afro-Zep below, and get a little taste of the music with a couple videos.
