This week we have an abundance of rappers to announce. Except one date, but still. Starting off our hip hop artists is CRASHprez for Kitty Pryde during our Memorial Union Bash. Similar to Kitty Pryde, CRASHprez is a young rapper of eighteen and speaks about relatable issues over hip hop beats. Interestingly enough, Michael Penn II (CRASHprez) was a part of the UW-Madison’s 2012 Slam Team and is currently a student at UW-Madison. Not to mention that he is also a producer and audio engineer. Check out his songs that he has produced at his Bandcamp here.
Later on in September, Lushlife will perform in The Sett. Also a hip hop artist, Lushlife’s songs have psychedelic beats in the background while he raps with a powerful passion. The single “Still I Hear the Word Progress (ft. Styles P)” was just released in March and with that, he found much appraise about his most recent album Plateau Vision. Along with CRASHprez, Lushlife produces music and will be a great hip hop act to witness.
We’ll take a break from rap for a bit to announce Woods and Exitmusic to The Terrace. Woods is a folk band from Brooklyn and their main goal for their recent album, Bend Beyond, was to capture their live sound. They succeed in doing this in songs such as “Suffering Season,” or “I’m Not Gone.” Playing along with them will be Exitmusic, or a pair of musicians that have combined their talent to create electronic/indie music. Their songs consist of eerie, but attention grabbing beats. For example, listen to their recently released EP, “Passage.”
Okay, that was a short break, but back to our rap artists coming this fall. The lineup for October 5th consists Serengeti, Bi-Polar Bear, and Junk Science. Serengeti is a Chicago rapper, but instead of speedily stringing through words, his pace is similar to a hip hop version of Cake. His song, “California” has a upbeat sound in the background, while he raps about materialistic issues. Joining Serengeti for the night will be Bi-Polar Bear, who performed at The Sett not too long ago with the rap artist Astronautalis, and Junk Science, who has an old-school R&B/rap feel. Check out “Life ” by Bi-Polar Bear, and “Really Man ” by Junk Science.
These are all steller line-ups that you’ll need to show your support at. Check out our WUD Music calendar for more official dates.
