Welcome the the Official WUD Music Committee Blog. What do we do with this blog? Well just take a look at the top pages and scroll on through and you should be able to figure it out.

The main question you probably want to know is who we are. Well here is the technical version for you:

The Wisconsin Union Directorate Music Committee is a registered student organization that is in charge of booking and promoting shows that take place on campus. The committee is made up completely of University of Wisconsin-Madison students who attend weekly meetings at which decisions on what bands to bring to the university are made. We book acts with our large campus audience in mind, which leads to a rather diverse lineup comprised of the best up-and-coming artists. WUD Music typically programs weekly shows on Friday and Saturday which take place at campus venues including but not limited to Der Rathskeller and The Terrace. Past acts of note who have played at the university include The Buzzcocks, The Cool Kids, and Yo La Tengo just to name a few. Although we do coordinate paid programs, the vast majority of the shows we put on our free, so come on out and have a good time!

But does that really encompass who we are? No. It does not do us justice.

At the core of this issue we are people who really like music. Maybe too much to the point where snobbery takes over and we not only argue amongst one another, but will impose these strong musical views on people outside our understanding circle of audible attacks. We wouldn’t be surprised to hear the tale of a music committee member kicking someone off the iPod at a party cause they had a few too many rounds of “What’s My Age Again?”, Jack Johnson, or possibly the worst offender of all.

But we jest. Partially. Our musical interests are about as all over the map as you can get. And yes we do work hard to bring a well rounded schedule to the Union every semester. Above all we like music and all types of music. It’s our anti-drug.

Still we have not answered the question of who we are. And that is what this blog is here for. Not only will you get to see what bands we are bringing to the Union, what music we like and think you should like, but also what we do on committee, who we are as individuals, and how we work as a big happy group of people. We won’t tell you that right now…you just have to read that for yourself.
