UNION SOUTH Sunday Night Gallery Jam

This Sunday 7:30pm @ the Sett

This Sunday come to the Sett and chill out with a show by Breathe Owl Breathe with Photographers, brought to you by WUD Music, and Art.

Breathe Owl Breathe is a cute three piece ensemble that will put on a show.  The band is known for their folky sound with a “flare for pop-addled melodies.” (Paste Magazne) The band puts on a show, much children put on a puppet show, and it will have you playing, clapping, and making animal gestures along to the music, as if you were at a kindergarten sing-a-long. But don’t be fooled, the bands happy, peppy, poppy folk is also whimsically dark and harrowed.

The opener for the first ever Union South Gallery Jam will be the Photographers, a similar poppy folk band from Chicago.

this is one catchy tune

i can’t stop listening to it. it’s “island, is” by volcano choir from their album unmap. volcano choir is a collaboration between collection of colonies of bees and bon iver’s justin vernon (all wisconsin natives). volcano choir has been called more experimental, and “island, is” is one of the few songs on the album that actually has lyrics. the music video is almost as addicting as the song itself. check it out below.

this is just more proof that the wisconsin does it best. word.

rock on folks,

we go to one kick-ass college

really we do. granted we put up with our fair share of crap. for example, my umbrella got in wrestling match with the wind yesterday. the wind won. but it’s all worth it in the end. wouldn’t you agree? among the many things that make uw madison awesome are the concerts. what other school books as many shows? with lots of variety? for free? can’t think of any? me either. they probably don’t exist (if they do: sorry, no offense intended).

tonight is great laker swimmers with the wooden birds. click here for a sample.

tomorrow is los cojolites for el mes xicano, an event co-sponsored with MEChA. los cojolites (along with the opening acts of buya, los vicios de papa, and olmeca) take the stage at 7:00. below is los cojolites’ song “el conejo” that was featured on the soundtrack from the movie frida.

watching this video almost makes me forget that the forecast for saturday calls for a high of 47 and rain. maybe having a margarita before the show will make the weather a little more bearable.

rock on folks,
margaret kaye
